Is CookUnity legit?
- Ashley Korff
I’ve personally used CookUnity for the past year.
Here’s everything you need to know about the done-for-you, direct-to-chef, meal service.

If you haven’t seen any ads yet for meal services or kits, consider yourself a unicorn…this shit is popping up everywhere like Slim Shady lookalikes at the 2000 MTV Music Awards.
HelloFresh & Blue Apron are the two heavyweights in the meal kit service department, but there’s a new kind of sheriff in town…
…services that don’t just give you all the ingredients and recipes shipped to your front door, but ones that actually do ALL of the fucking cooking for you.
It’s like having a live-in private chef without being a celebrity.
You pick your meals for the week, and the done-for-you, private-chef-made meals appear on your doorstep for the weekly delivery date {Wednesday}.
All you do is heat in the microwave for 3-5 minutes, or in your oven for 12-15, & BAM!
You’re eating a meal that ain’t your mama’s frozen TV dinner.
And you didn’t have to lift all your damn fingers after a long day.
That is the magic of CookUnity.
And while it may sound too good to be true {one of my Youtube video tags for my review last year is ranking pretty high for “is cookunity legit”}, it’s definitely not for everyone.
After using the service for the past year living in two different cities, it’s time to break it down.
Who Would Benefit The Most From Cook Unity
The obvious target demographic is working professionals who either hate cooking, don’t know how to cook, or just don’t want to spend that time at the end of a day being an independent badass.
Look…I’ve kept 50 pounds off for 16 years, & while I used to have no choice but to cook all of my meals, I hate it.
And as a full-time CEO, I don’t really want to be cooking my meals every damn night.
Last year in 2023 was even more bananas because I literally lost my grandma, sister, uncle, and two friends within just 5 months.
Between running my companies, my nonprofit, beginning work on my 6th book, daily gym sessions, taking care of my rescue furbabies, & juggling all the death aftermath tasks, cooking dinner just wasn’t on any priority list.
So CookUnity was a fricking lifesaver for someone in my shoes.
Some of the other demographics that would also benefit from using CookUnity are soon-to-be & new parents, grad school students, & even retirees.
One of the best things you can do for someone who’s a brand-new parent is buy them healthy meals that are ready to heat & eat…& CookUnity makes it stupid-easy.
Grad school students are also short on time & can easily throw a CookUnity meal in a microwave & oven in a flash.
And not all retirees want to be making their own meals from scratch, especially if their spouse used to and has died.
Definitely keep CookUnity in mind for birthday gifts, baby shower gifts, retirement parties, and more.
The Cost
Here’s what most people wanna know…how much is it gonna cost me, boss?
While CookUnity is VERY fairly priced considering you are getting meals literally created and cooked by private chefs, it’s not for everyone.
Expect to spend between $100-$150 per week for 12 meals {they do offer a 16 meal plan}.
You’ll have to budget for the remaining meals per week {usually breakfast and another lunch/dinner} unless you want to opt for their add-ons to build a full 3-meals-per-day plan with the service {expect to spend $200+}.
Now with the current cost of groceries, a ton of people will look at that and think it’s a piss in the bucket, especially since you’re not cooking a damn thing all week.
But the people living off of butter noodles and canned tuna might have a stroke looking at that price.
It’s worthwhile to say that CookUnity almost always has an intro offer in place if you find one of their social media ads in the wild, but you can use my referral link and get at least $50 off your first box to give it the old college try: https://www.cookunity.com/landing-referral?referral_code=ashlekorff
The more meals you pick, the cheaper each individual meal becomes. You’ll see this when you’re adding them & picking your meal plan.
All orders come in high-quality insulated reusable bags, & every meal I’ve had has been delicious, so to me the cost has been worth it.
Different Meal Plan Sizes
As of July 12, 2024, CookUnity offers weekly meal plans with 4, 6, 8, 12, & 16 meals.
All meals are shipped to you fresh, not frozen, in an insulated reusable bag with handles {2024}.
It's recommended to freeze any meals you don't eat within 3 days to preserve their freshness.
Dietary Preferences
Another thing I like about CookUnity is they offer a shit ton of options, no matter if you’re pescatarian, vegan, vegetarian, etc, they’ve got you covered.
You can easily filter your preferences at the top of their site when you’re picking your meals.
The Cons of CookUnity
The weekly deadline for picking meals is Thursday, with payment required no later than 5 PM EST Friday.
The only delivery date I’ve ever been offered is Wednesdays. So if you order the week before, you still have to figure out your meals from that date thru at least lunch on Wednesday.
Not all meals are featured every week, so you will have to change it up some when that happens.
Sometimes the selections for vegan/vegetarian are sparse or are options you might not like.
They do offer family-friendly sizes and side dishes, but it’s not for every single person who has kids. You’ll have to check it out and see if it’s for your family.
Not every meal is very healthy, so you’ll have to use your own common sense & judgment to create a healthy meal plan
The Pros of CookUnity
Done-for-you and ready to heat and eat to me is fucking priceless
They offer seasonal/holiday spreads for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, & more which is really cool if that’s what you need
You can pick a pre-built meal plan size and add on as much as you want
The pricing is honestly very reasonable for what you’re getting {usually hiring a private chef to cater your Mother’s Day brunch is wayyyyy more expensive}
You can pause your weekly plan at any time & for up to 8 weeks if you’re traveling etc
They have referral discounts {here’s mine https://www.cookunity.com/landing-referral?referral_code=ashlekorff } & sales almost every ad I’ve ever seen on Facebook
You’ll ultimately have to try the service out for yourself and see how you like it!
Hopefully this blog post helped!
